I was debating if there’s more value in posting my personal favs when it comes to the “quick getaway” photoshoot during a wedding, but because I never like to shoot at a “standard” location, I’d like to focus on “backup” locations for those terrible rainy days! I’m not talking about 10 minute sun showers or little dabbles of rain, I mean tons of rain, as if Poseidon himself is unleashing his fury upon us 🙁
Here’s a list of my recommended locations for indoor wedding/engagement photography:
(Note: When contacting these locations, mention that you’d like a “Wedding Photography Permit”)
1) Knox College – Toronto (UofT)
Features: Photographer’s Favourite, beautiful stone architecture, great for indoor photos when raining outside.
Location: 59 St. George Street, Toronto, ON M5S
Permit is $250
Contact: Manager of Facilities – Daniela D’Aniello
2) Union Station – Toronto
Features: One of the largest and most opulent train stations in Canada, with fascinating old architecture, both inside and out.
Location: 65 Front Street West (at Bay Street)
Contact: Jim Cook
3) The Old Davis Tannery
Features: Indoor. Fountain, granite, roman architecture, balconies, pillars, iron gates, bright.
Location: 465 Davis Drive, Suite 119, Newmarket, Ontario L3Y 2P1
Permit: $90 in advance and $120 if booked on the day of your wedding (including GST, full day permit)
4) Woodbine Centre – Fantasy Fair
Features: Excitement of a turn-of-the-century Victorian town complete with a dazzling array of rides and attractions
Location: 500 Rexdale Blvd, Etobicoke, ON M9W 6K5
Permit: Administration fee of $60 (plus GST), you may take photos on-site. Rides may be reserved for $60 for 10 minutes/ride or $150 for a 3-ride package.
Phone 1: 416-674-5200
Phone 2: 416-674-5437
I’d rather not default to a backup option at all, so let’s just keep our fingers crossed for co-operative weather! 🙂
